The NZIOB Charitable Trust is registered on the Charities Register (registration number CC32376), first registered in June 2008, being a re-registration of the earlier NZIOB Charitable Trust founded in 1985 (required with legislation changes).
In a 11 March 1993 letter from Garry Tait noted: “The Trust was formed in 1985 and is specifically used for educational purposes, grants and scholarships.”
The Trust was funded, as noted in a letter to Shirley Fisher (NZIOB Executive Secretary) dated 16 July 1985 from lawyers Scott, Morrison, Dunphy & Co: “You have informed us that the NZIOB Inc has approximately $20,000 in surplus fund which it wishes to apply in establishing a Trust for educational purposes” the letter attached a Trust Deed which noted: “the Trust Fund will be used to establish scholarships and prizes and other awards to encourage the study of building and kindred matters, arts and sciences and research into innovations and inventions capable of being used by persons engaged in the building industry.”
In addition the AIB minutes dated 26 October 1984 note: “The NZIOB had accepted the AIB offer of a gift of NZ$1,000 to be used for the AIB prize. It also acknowledged with thanks the gift of NZ$10,000 by the AIB to the NZIOB.”
The Trust account was opened 6 August 1986, with the receipt book shows $10 transferred (presumably from NZIOB) to open the account. Later that month the $1,000 from the AIB was transferred.
